Euro 2000, Belgium and the Netherlands
For the first time in the tournaments history the event was split between two host nations, Belgium and the Netherlands co-hosted the event.

2000 European Championship Final
The final between France and Italy was played at the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam to a packed house of 50,000 spectators. To get to the final France beat Portugal by scoring a golden goal during extra time as both teams were drawing 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes. Italy progressed by beating the Netherlands 3-1 during a penalty shoot out following the goal less draw.
Italy opened up the match with a goal in the 55th minute by Delvecchio and it looked as if the Italians had the final all sewn up when in the 4th minute of extra time France equalised with a goal from Wiltord. The match then went into extra time and France won the final by a golden goal scored by Trezeguet in the 103rd minute.
