Russia Euro 2012 Odds

Russia Euro2008Under the Soviet Union Russia were the first ever winners of the European Championships in 1960. As the USSR they also finished runners-up in 1964 and 1972, however, they have not been as successful since the split. Although in Euro 2008 they made a determined run to the semi-finals where they were beaten 3-0 by Spain.

Russia have been placed in Euro 2012 Group A with co-hosts Poland, 2004 winners Greece and the Czech Republic. Russia will be confident of qualifying from the favourable group and progressing through to the quarter-finals. Their opening match will be against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Friday 8th June 2012.

The Russians went into the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign full of confidence with Dick Advocaat in charge and carried that momentum through to the end by winning Qualification Group B. Bookmakers are currently quoting odds of around 20/1 for Russia to win the 2012 European Championships.

Key Player

Russia have a strong defence having conceded just four times in ten qualifiers. Roman Pavlyuchenko and Alan Dzagoev both scored four goals in qualification but they are likely to face sterner defences in the summer. Zenit St. Petersburg striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov has a good goal scoring record at international level and will pose a threat if played.
