Scotland
Scotland have qualified twice for the European Champions on back-to-back occasions, first in Euro 92 in Sweden followed by Euro 96 in England. They once again were unable to qualify this time round after being placed in a difficult group which means it is their fourth failure to qualify in succession.
With just one match remaining Scotland were in second place in Qualification Group I and needed to match the Czech Republic's result in order to progress through to the play-offs. However, the Scots faced a very tricky task as they had to travel to Spain to play the World and European championships, who themselves were looking to finish off with a 100% record. Despite a battling performance Scotland were outclassed 3-1 and with the Czech Republic thrashing Lithuania it meant that their play-off dreams were dashed.
Key Player
For many years Scotland have relied on Rangers forward Kenny Miller upfront however, as the player is now 30-years-old his international career will be slowing down. Scotland head coach Craig Levein must follow England's suit and look for some new blood. Scotland's captain Darren Fletcher epitomises the passion and determination associated with Scottish football and Levein will be desperate to keep him fit in order to challenger the Czech Republic for second spot.
