As co-hosts of Euro 2008, Switzerland gained automatic qualification in what was only their third ever appearance in the competition. Unfortunately for the Swiss and their supporters It was not to be a fairytale as they finished rock-bottom of their group despite beating Portugal 2-0 in what was their first ever win in the European Championships.
Switzerland were never on top form in Euro 2012 qualification Group G and it cost them dear as they missed out on a play-off spot to Montenegro.
